Review on Plateau
A visually spectacular venue high on the fourth floor of the Canada Square building, Plateau is a futuristic glass structure with views across the lawns and sculptures of Canada Square Park. Swivel chairs under Italian marble tables and David Mellor cutlery add a touch of retro nostalgia to proceedings.
The formal restaurant is the setting for Frederick Forster's exciting classic French cooking: here you will find a roulade of foie gras paired with strawberries and basil, lobster roll with mango and avocado, and fillet of beef with white asparagus and soy emulsion. Otherwise, the menu might feature line-caught sea bass with sweetcorn and lemongrass or Barbary duck with fresh cherries and cucumber salad. Vegetarians have their own menu, while desserts push the boat out with - say - blood orange and carrot sorbet with chocolate mousse and almond nougatine or mixed berry sponge with iced jasmine tea and white peach sorbet.
A simpler menu of brasserie-style dishes is available in the adjoining bar and grill. As with so many Conran outlets (now D&D London), the auspicious wine list is well worth investigating, and it pay to take advice from the expert sommelier.
