Review on Bryn Tyrch Hotel
Set in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, with a garden by the River Llugwy, this ever-popular hotel is a favourite haunt of walkers, climbers, field study groups, even management-training teams.
For two decades it has specialised in serving vegetarian and vegan dishes based on indigenous Welsh produce. During the day (until 6.00pm), the choice doesn’t stray far beyond paninis with hot fillings, ploughman’s, soup and Welsh rarebit, but the kitchen comes to life for evening meals with a touch more ambition.
Expect an eclectic mixed bag of dishes ranging from aduki bean ‘cottage pie’ with port and cranberry sauce to pasta with oven-roast vegetables, tomato and basil sauce. Thankfully, those who are not veggie-inclined are more than welcome and could be treated to â€" maybe â€" oven-roast chorizo and mixed peppers with Welsh cheese, salmon fillet with fennel marmalade, or chicken, spinach and coconut curry. Rounding things off are homespun desserts such as bread-and-butter pudding or treacle tart. Well-chosen wines by the glass.
