Review on Mary Ann's Bar & Restaurant
Walk up the hill from the quay to reach this redoubtable village hostelry, which has been doing great business since 1846 (when it opened as a bar/shop/coal merchant and hackney service). It has lost none of its original character or special buzz over the years, and is currently in the safe hands of Fergus and Patricia O'Mahony.
You can eat in the bar or in the upstairs restaurant, which also houses the Warren art gallery; it's also pleasurable to sit out in garden (which has a retractable awning to defy the weather). Seafood is the main attraction on the menu, with hefty platters of Castlehaven Bay shellfish stealing much of the limelight; steaks and local West Cork cheeses are also worth trying. At lunchtime, 'generously stuffed' sandwiches and some lighter dishes flesh out the menu.
