Review on Buckingham's
Nick Buckingham's 'Restaurant with One Table' is a remarkable venue, and there are no prizes for guessing why it is so extraordinary - the name says it all. The idea is to serve a maximum of ten people around just one table, and the concept has garnered quite a reputation and a clutch of awards along the way.
The restaurant has a unique price structure: you choose in advance whether you want the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum version (prices range from £47.50 to £150 per person), and the intelligent wine selections are similarly structured, ensuring that each tipple complements the food perfectly. Mouth-watering examples from the Gold Menu to whet the appetite include asparagus mousse with caviar dressing followed by baked turbot with potato scales and lobster sauce and then roast breast of partridge with truffle and Burgundy sauce. To finish there is a plate of mini desserts followed by Stilton soaked in port with pickled walnuts.
