Review on The Lord Bute Hotel & Restaurant
This magnificent edifice, which stands in delightful grounds behind the entrance lodges to Highcliffe Castle, was Lord Bute’s residence during the latter part of the eighteenth century. These days, it’s a popular choice for weddings, conferences and fine dining.
Enjoy a drink in the orangery before taking your seat in the dining room, which is done out in classical style in keeping with the rest of the building: pictures reflecting Lord Bute’s era hang on the richly coloured walls. Local ingredients get a good airing on the menu â€" witness roast pavé of Romsey lamb with silky redcurrant and mint glaze, sea bass from the Dorset boats grilled with rock salt, and even loin of Hinton ostrich with herb mash, braised red cabbage, wild mushroom and red wine sauce.
