Review on Tower Restaurant
‘Uniquely for a museum, this has become the hottest table in Edinburgh’, wrote AA Gill in The Sunday Times.
Perched high above the ‘sandstone Sphinx’ that is The Museum of Scotland â€" with stunning views of the floodlit castle and St Giles Cathedral â€" this top-floor dining room plies its trade, serving up modern Scottish dishes to A-list celebs (Joanna Lumley, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sean Connery) as well as tourists and locals.
The kitchen taps into Scotland’s abundant supplies of seafood offering lobsters, Argyll rock oysters (served with pickled vegetables, Tabasco and shallot vinegar), Fife crab and dishes such as seared scallops with split pea purée, romesco salsa and pancetta or whole lemon sole with sage and caper butter, green beans and mussel beignets.
Aberdeen Angus steaks, hung for 21 days and served with potato scone and Portobello mushrooms is a signature dish, while lovers of game might prefer roast tea-smoked venison with port-soaked cherries and root vegetables. The pudding menu offers things like chocolate and Cointreau mousse with passion fruit sorbet or steamed raspberry sponge with golden syrup and clotted cream.
The Tower is open for coffee from 10.00am and offers excellent-value ‘light theatre suppers‘ from 5.00 - 6.30pm.
