Review on Ho Wong
Behind its dark glass frontage, Ho Wong puts on a classy, sophisticated show with its rich, dark décor, plush carpets, beautiful pieces of carved furniture and vases of lilies and orchids. The mood is affable, service is sharp and speedy.
The menu cuts a swathe through the mainstream Chinese repertoire, neatly avoiding takeaway clichés as well as the more outlandish and esoteric creations involving duck’s feet, intestines and the like. Instead, expect a good showing of seafood in the shape of â€" say â€" salt and chilli scallops, baked lobster with ginger and spring onion, king prawns with asparagus and steamed sea bass. Added to this are satays, sizzlers, ‘bird’s nests’ and specialities like Peking duck, grilled chicken in plum sauce, and aromatic crispy lamb. There’s also a useful selection of vegetarian options (grilled aubergines in sweet chilli sauce, for example).
