Review on Chez Mal at Malmaison Glasgow
A converted Greek Orthodox church is the stunning setting for the Glasgow branch of the national Malmaison hotel group. Once a fashionable place of worship, it now boasts ornate wrought ironwork on the staircase and a spherical chandelier at the entrance. Formerly Martin Wishart's second The Honours restaurant in May 2017 it was relaunched as the Chez Mal with its glittering domed ceiling and smart red banquette seating.
Starters bring on classic dishes such as a prawn cocktail, as well as more modern ideas like handmade Vietnamese tuna rolls with pickled mooli, cucumber, avocado, coriander and Nuoc Cham chilli dipping sauce amongst the starters. While main courses offer Yorkshire Dales pan-fried lamb cutlet and braised lamb neck with a light vegetable broth and jus vinaigrette or Keralan Monkfish curry, consisting of Monkfish, tiger prawn, clam and mussels, grilled coriander flat bread, fragrant rice and red chilli. To conclude there's desserts like sticky toffee pudding with pecan caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream or rhubarb trifle with Yorkshire rhubarb, vanilla custard and almond crumb.
