Review on Café Below
Café Below occupies the Norman crypt below Christopher Wren's famous St Mary-le-Bow edifice - famous for its Bow Bells. It's an ancient and highly atmospheric setting for honest vegetarian food without ethical compromises - and there's the bonus of eating outside, with tables arrayed on Bow Churchyard in good weather (one of the best kept al fresco secrets in the City).
Seasonal and organic ingredients figure on the daily changing menu, which offers soup, quiche, salads, 'healthbowls' and a hot dish - perhaps potato, tomato and rosemary bake served with sesame broccoli. If you fancy a pud, try prune and chocolate tart. Muffins, pastries, muesli and porridge are served at breakfast.
