Review on Lady Abercorn’s Pub & Kitchen
Part of the former Great Eastern Hotel complex (recently taken over by Hyatt Hotels as part of the ANdAZ brand), the Lady Abercorn’s Pub & Kitchen is a traditional City boozer, a classic example of the repro ‘Tudorbethan’ style, with its oak-panelled walls and panelled ceilings; it’s also one of the most glorious examples of architect Colonel R.W.Edis’ original designs.
You can sup a pint and enjoy a ploughman's or a pork pie with pickled red cabbage in the bar, although the menu moves beyond pub clichés into the world of pickled herring, potato and watercress salad, slow-roast belly pork with leek and potato ragoût, and oatmeal grilled trout with capers and mint.
Sandwiches are also available (try the salt beef and horseradish on rye) and desserts fly the flag of St George with rhubarb crumble, parkin pudding with butterscotch sauce and Bramley apple pie with clotted cream.
