Review on Sushi Tetsu
Sushi Tetsu, a traditional Japanese sushi bar opened in the Summer of 2012, a diminutive restaurant with just seven covers its located on Jerusalem Passage in the hidden alleyways of Clerkenwell. The venture run by husband and wife team Toru Takahashi and Harumi, has caught the attention of press and foodies alike due to its tasty combinations of ultra-fresh sushi and sashimi. With a light and airy ambience and a minimalist décor, it was listed at number 31 in the Sunday Times top 100 Britain's Restaurants 2013.
Toru earned his culinary stripes at renowned restaurants such as Nobu and Kobe where he acquired the nickname, Tetsu. Fish is carefully sourced daily from Billingsgate Market or flown in directly from Japan from respected sources known to Toru, then expertly prepared in front of you and presented on a banana leaf. There's a concise menu featuring sushi and sashimi dishes in the shape of sea bass and yellowtail served with a ponzu based dipping sauce or bream marinated in seaweed. Diners can also opt for the Omakase menu which is a combination of both sashimi and sushi, where you allow the chef to create a mouth-watering menu for you using the very finest ingredients available that day.
To complement the food there's a concise wine list, Japanese beers, saké and green tea.
