Review on Cashel House Hotel
Built in 1840 and set amid 50 acres of award-winning gardens and woodland walks at the head of Cashel Bay, the McEvillys’ hotel is one of Ireland’s country house veterans. It gained legendary fame in 1968 when it was visited by General and Madame de Gaulle " who gave the place a genuinely Gallic seal of approval.
A spacious conservatory extension has been tacked onto the well-appointed split-level dining room, which makes the most of awesome views. Connemara lamb is a regular feature on the menu, along with local seafood in various guises (including live lobsters from the tank).
Flavours are diverse, so you might begin with warm Cleggan mussels tinged with tomato, chilli and garlic before Cashel Bay mackerel with gooseberry sauce or roast free-range duck with pear and honey sauce. To close the show there are classic desserts such as warm rhubarb tart with ginger ice cream or sticky toffee pudding with fudge sauce.
