Review on Craigellachie Hotel, The Copper Dog
The Craigellachie Hotel, a grandiose Victorian mansion surrounded by acres of parkland with uninterrupted views over the dramatic Moray landscape has undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment by its current owner. A country house ambience prevails, rooms have been tastefully furnished and there's also a billiards room and a cinema room which can be used for private screenings.
Dining takes place in The Copper Dog which is located in the basement of the hotel, featuring a traditional décor it's named after the cylinders distillery workers who used to pilfer whisky. The kitchen offers a menu showcasing the best of local fare with the majority of their produce sourced from within a 20 mile radius. Menus change regularly but popular starters that appear could be Scottish cold smoked salmon, caper and shallot dressing and fresh lemon or game terrine, port and red wine glaze, toasted brioche, pear and apple chutney. Moving on there's Royan’s of Elgin Copper Dog sausage and rumble thumps with onion gravy or battered smoked haddock, hand-cut chips, mushy peas and fresh lemon. To finish enjoy sticky toffee pudding paired with whisky ice cream or a raspberry ripple cheesecake and white chocolate sauce.
Finally, what is there to do after dinner? Head for the world-renowned and multi award-winning Quaich Bar. There are nearly 700 single malt whiskies just waiting to be sampled in a beguiling club-like atmosphere. Take your time!
