Review on The Raby Hunt
The Raby Hunt restaurant and Inn is set in a smart Grade II listed building in the rural village of Summerhouse a few miles north-west of Darlington. This is a family operated enterprise owned by Helene and Russell Close who used to run the award winning Grove House Hotel and their talented son James who mans the kitchen. The dining room is a smart affair decorated in an inviting contemporary style, together with two charming bars ideal for a pre-dinner drink and a splendid outside eating area when the weather is warm.
James has built up a special relationship with suppliers he can trust to provide only the finest ingredients, which he uses for his creative dishes that has seen him awarded two esteemed Michelin stars in the 2017 Guide. Choose a starter such as ox cheek that has been braised for 48 hours served with ceps, peas and green peppercorn juice or maybe Dover sole, pan fried with variations of English peas and almond jus. Main courses usher in Raby Estate Red Deer
loin with a crouton of fillet tartare, caramelized cauliflower textures, venison jus and potato puree or sea bream, pan fried with cauliflower, celeriac, potted shrimps and razor clam jus. There is no let up when it comes to the dessert stage, where you might be offered awesome delights like rich chocolate bar with popcorn ice cream.
Service is exemplary and oozes friendliness and warmth ensuring that a pleasing relaxed atmosphere prevails. There is a fine wine cellar to complement the food with many bottles specially selected from the old and new world. The Raby Hunt also offers two stylish rooms should you want to extend your stay and explore the area.
