Review on Loch Kinord Hotel
Enticingly situated in the heart of Royal Deeside at the gateway to the Highlands, this hotel was originally built in the late 1800s for the nieces of Doctor Profeit (Queen Victoria's doctor), and became an upmarket retreat for wealthy fishermen, stalkers and travellers.
These days it remains a popular stop-off for tourists, who appreciate its lovely wooded location between Ballater and Aboyne, its pretty gardens and family hospitality. Dinner is also a treat, and the kitchen offers a short, fixed-price menu that might run along the lines of grilled Scottish salmon with asparagus, smoky bacon and cream sauce, followed by pan-fried duck cooked with cherries, ginger and spring onions on a bed of noodles. For afters, expect - say - two little ramekins of delicate crème brûlée and rich chocolate mousse.
