Review on Yi-Ban
Yi-Ban means 'first class', a suitably up-front title for this swish Docklands Chinese opposite London City Airport (watch the planes taking off).
Crowds of office workers and legions of Chinese aficionados pack into the place for daytime dim sum (served noon-5pm): the range is extensive, taking in classic har gau, steamed snow pea and crabmeat dumplings, sweet-and-sour prawn wun tuns, fried Peking dumplings filled with minced pork, and much more besides.
The full menu embraces everything from deep-fried soft shell crabs, Cantonese roast belly pork and duck with mango to more esoteric specials such as crispy prawns topped with walnuts, soy-roasted black cod and ngou lam bow (chunky beef braised in a claypot).
A second, more expensive branch is located in a new development close to Imperial Wharf, Chelsea.
