Review on The Butchers Arms
The Butchers Arms is a traditional two-room public house with a restaurant, set in the village of Eldersfield in Gloucestershire. The small informal dining room has a simple décor with beamed ceiling, wood flooring and just three tables seating 12 diners. The pub is a favourite local watering hole and as a free-house offers a wide range of traditional real ale served straight from the cask.
The kitchen offers a small seasonal menu that is prepared daily according to market availability, such as Roger Warners aged rib of Hereford beef, Phillip Houldeys lamb or perhaps middle white pork from Huntsham Farm. Fish is also sourced daily from the finest catch of the day from Looe or maybe there will be wild salmon caught using traditional methods on the Severn. Typical starters on the menu could be onion tart with melting goat's cheese and balsamic dressing or seared diver caught scallops with chorizo and local salad. Follow on with pan fried Gressingham duck breast with parsnip puree and poached rhubarb or pan fried hake with braised squid, chilli, fennel and saffron rice. Desserts might run to Seville orange marmalade pudding with custard or baked vanilla and honey cheesecake with pistachio ice cream.
The Butchers Arms was awarded Pub of the Year in the 2016 edition of the Michelin Guide.
