Review on Bel & The Dragon
Situated in the small village of Churt in the picturesque Surrey Hills, The Bel & The Dragon is the fifth offspring of this successful group of country pub restaurants with branches in Windsor, Cookham, Reading, Kingsclere and Odiham. The charming country inn, set opposite the Sculpture Park has been lovingly restored by acclaimed British Interior Designer, Nicola Harding. The restaurant has a relaxed and welcoming vibe, overlooked by the open kitchen it has a rustic but refined décor. Their bar area is a perfect spot for a cappuccino or a relaxing glass of wine with views of the terrace through the French windows.
Ronnie Kimbugwe is the Groups Head Chef and he previously honed his skills as the Senior Sous Chef at the critically acclaimed Gordon Ramsay at Claridges. Kimbugwe together with Churt's head chef have created a menu showcasing the finest seasonal modern British cuisine, with ingredients carefully sourced from local and sustainable sources.
Amongst the starters look for potted shrimps, crème fraîche and chives, served with grilled focaccia, before a main course of roasted suckling pig, crispy crackling and Russet apple chutney from the rotisserie, or maybe grilled half Dorset Blue lobster with warm garlic butter from the Josper grill. Desserts offer a trip down memory lane with homemade blackberry and apple crumble paired with custard or double cream, as well as a classic apple tarte tatin and
Jersey ice cream.
A well-researched wine list offers bottles from across the globe with plenty of finds for enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike, and there's an excellent selection of local ales as well. Should you decide to extend your stay and explore the local area, The Bel & The Dragon has thirteen stylish bedrooms.
