Review on Knockomie Hotel
Situated four miles from the Moray coast, this carefully preserved Arts & Crafts house is tucked away just off a country road on the outskirts of Forres. Inside it retains a traditional country house atmosphere, although the dining room is now reaping the benefits of a revamp.
There is a choice of two menus. You can go down the traditional Scottish route with the likes of Cullen skink, rack of lamb with crushed minted peas and rowan jelly jus or collop of Edinvlae rump steak with mustard mash. Alternatively, order from the daily menu of fish, white meat and vegetarian dishes - perhaps chicken liver parfait with red onion marmalade followed by baked fillet of West Coast salmon on spring onion and parsley champ with lemon and herb butter.
The 100-bin wine list has a good international spread, otherwise finish off with a dram or two in the aptly named Malt Library bar.
