Review on Oscar's Seafood Bistro
Oscar's Seafood Bistro has been a long standing favourite amongst the denizens of Galway since opening its doors in 2000. Taking its name from the prestigious Academy Award, the vibrant restaurant with its bright colours on Dominick Street in the historic West-side of the city, is certainly hard to miss. Inside the theatrical interiors are also striking, decked out in a rich red with upholstered banquettes, fabric drapes tent the ceiling and large food themed photos adorn the walls.
Proprietor is Euro-Toques chef Michael O’Meara, who uses locally sourced produce to telling effect, resulting in numerous awards over the years. Menus are updated regularly according to the season and there's a blackboard displaying the current dishes of the day, reflecting the daily catch specials caught by local fishermen.
Enjoy a starter of line caught crispy squid and baby octopus with wasabi and lime aioli, before a main course of crab claw and prawn melt, braised in white wine veloute and served on organic curly kale colcannon, smothered with melted Galway Killeen farmhouse cheese. Carnivores are also catered for with dishes such as free range chicken breast stuffed with Galway Killeen goat’s cheese and prosciutto, basil and almond pesto.
There's an extensive wine list to complement the food and service is both competent and friendly.
