Review on The Curry Room at Old Government House Hotel
Formally the residence of The Lieutenant Governor (or, to give him his full title, ‘The Queen’s Representative to the Bailwick of Guernsey’) this is the longest established hotel on the island, dating back to 1857.
‘OGH’ â€" as it’s affectionately known â€" still clings to its heritage, although the place has moved with the times and now incorporates a luxurious Moroccan Spa and a therapeutic Temple of Body & Soul. Pride of place in the dining stakes goes to the intimate, immaculately decorated Curry Room, which is hung with photographs of former ‘Representatives’ and other memorabilia.
Heading the kitchen is Simon McKenzie who together with his team have created a menu garnered from authentic Indian recipes encompassing different regions of India. There is an excellent value three course menu on offer for lunch and dinner, with the option to include a flight of wines carefully selected to enhance the flavours and textures of your chosen dishes.
Alternatively, enjoy lunch or dinner in the atmosphere French-style Brasserie overlooking the walled gardens: you can eat al fresco during the summer or sit by the pool and sample food from the outdoor griddle.
