Review on Macdonald Gisborough Hall, Chaloner's Restaurant
Constructed in 1857 as a private residence for Baron Gisborourgh, this stately, ivy-clad mansion has retained much of its original Victorian and Edwardian heritage. The smartly appointed Chaloner's Restaurant occupies the old billiard room and boasts fine views of the hotel gardens.
The kitchen delivers seasonal modern dishes along the lines of seared scallops with trompette mushrooms, parsnip shavings and velouté froth, roast venison with braised red cabbage, roasted butternut squash, red wine and juniper sauce, and passion fruit soufflé. Early bird ‘Thyme Out’ menus are available from 5.30-6.45pm Monday-Thursday; light meals and snacks are also served in the main hall and drawing room.
