Review on Tom Browns Brasserie
Set in a converted Victorian schoolhouse and named after the eponymous hero of ‘Tom Brown’s Schooldays’, this family-run brasserie is situated in a prime site overlooking the River Trent (the best views are from the mezzanine floor of the dining room).
To start, you might fancy ham hock and green peppercorn terrine with mustard dressing or haddock and salmon fishcakes with caper and lemon mayonnaise. After that, perhaps seared salmon fillet with leek mash or rump of lamb with Savoy cabbage, rosemary and red wine sauce, before rounding off with something seasonal such as chocolate, Amaretto and hazelnut tart or vanilla pannacotta with mulled wine syrup and gingerbread biscuit.
Snack menus, ‘early bird’ deals and light lunches of sandwiches, pasta and so on are also well worth investigating. The 60-bin wine list has a good spread from around the globe.
