Review on Cat & Mutton
From the outside, the Cat & Mutton by London Fields Park looks like an archetypal Victorian city pub complete with etched glass windows and a pillared entrance. Inside, however, it tells a different tale: one look at the retro school chairs, brick walls and open kitchen will tell you that this is a fully grown gastro pub.
First impressions are reinforced by the day's menu chalked on a slate board. Here you might notice robust offerings like fishcakes, sausage and mash, and grilled pork fillet with Puy lentils plus a few flashier items like roast quail with pomegranate seeds or seared bluefin tuna with rice noodles, coriander and lemon grass broth. At lunchtime you can also get snacks like Welsh rarebit and hot sandwiches.
Be warned that on Sunday evenings the chefs go home and the DJs take over as the main providers of pleasure. Above the pub is the Cat Studio - a bespoke 'lifestyle' space with all sorts of utilities.
