Review on Waterside Bistro & Restaurant
Originally the old weir house beside ancient Nungate Bridge on the banks of the Tyne, this bistro/restaurant has lovely views across the water to St Mary’s Collegiate Church (the largest parish church in Scotland). The terrace outside is arguably one of the most idyllic and desirable spots for al fresco meals in the area.
Inside, the bistro makes a good impression with its warm colours, rough-hewn stone walls and pine-clad ceiling. The menu covers a lot of ground, with seafood as a major player. Expect anything from Cullen skink and steamed mussels to poached salmon on mustard mash with Thermidor sauce. Meat eaters might go for steak or duck, while the choice of desserts could range from traditional raspberry cranachan laced with whisky to sticky toffee pudding.
