Review on Hellidon Lakes, Lakes Restaurant

Part of a sprawling complex involving a spa and leisure club, bowling alley and 27-hole championship golf course, Hellidon Lakes stands in 220 acres of countryside on the borders of Northamptonshire and Warwickshire.

There are superb views of the fairways and some of Hellidon's 12 lakes from the windows of the aptly named restaurant, which promises international, brasserie-style food backed by a prestigious wine list. Salads and 'home comforts' like bangers and mash sit alongside duck breast with Chinese noodles, roast cod with pea risotto and suprême of chicken with vegetable couscous. Start with leek and blue cheese filo tart, and conclude with white chocolate cheesecake or lemongrass brûlée with glazed chilli sugar.

distinctive blue veins which become more strongly defined
as the cheese matures.

cornish yarg
Cornish Yarg is a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese made in
Cornwall, England. Before being left to mature, this
cheese is wrapped in nettle leaves to form an edible,
though mouldy, rind.
lincolnshire poacher
Distinctive cheese produced from unpasteurised milk from
their Lincolnshire herd. Matured for 18-22 months, a
deep complexity with a lovely smooth lingering aftertaste.
