Review on Gables Restaurant
Located in the picturesque village of Newgate Street, near Cuffley is where you will find the Gables Restaurant, set in an old-farmhouse building. The restaurant has a smart contemporary interior, polished wood tables and black leather chairs are set on modern wood flooring, with floor to ceiling windows opening out onto the patio. Laid out over two floors, Gables has a first floor cocktail bar, ideal for a pre or post dining drink, and it can also be booked for private parties.
The kitchen puts on its Mediterranean garb for a menu that might kick off with Greek spicy sausage and Halloumi cheese, grilled and served with cherry tomatoes and hot pitta bread or fresh Calamari, lightly floured and fried accompanied by aioli mayonnaise and a wedge of lemon. Main courses usher in freshly chargrilled lobster served in a white wine, garlic and chilli dressing accompanied by a mixed salad or calves liver, pan seared with dry-cure bacon and balsamic caramelised onions served with a root vegetable puree. The menu also showcases some excellent pasta and risotto dishes in the shape of crab linguine, white Devon crab meat in white wine, chilli, cherry tomatoes and parsley sauce or risotto al porcini, braised Arborio rice and porcini mushroom cooked in white wine and topped with shavings of Parmesan cheese. The choice of desserts could run to a traditional crème brûlée or homemade lemon tart served with Chantilly cream.
The well-chosen wine list hits the target whilst keeping its prices in check and offers several options by the glass. Gables also feature live jazz, classical and easy listening music nights which are proving to be very popular with diners.
