Review on The Valley Connection
The youngest of a trio of unusual Indian restaurants in the North-East, this branch of Daraz Aziz’s mini-empire is situated next to Hexham Abbey, overlooking the Market Place.
The menu here follows the same style as its relatives, offering a comprehensive selection of familiar curry house favourites including kormas, bhunas and jalfrezis alongside a clutch or more individual dishes that are particular to the Valley group.
Among the list of unusual specialities, look for shat kora delight (a dish that derives its fragrance from a member of the lemon family grown in Sylhet), chicken cooked with garden mint, and marinated duck breast in a creamy sauce with coconut.
Other unfamiliar names might include salmon salon (cooked with green chillies and orange peel) and beef adrok (topside flavoured with herbs and fresh ginger.
If you fancy splashing out with friends, go for Daraz’s five-course ‘super dinner’ or the chef’s even more extravagant seven-course blow-out.
