Review on Cigalon
Cigalon is an elegant French restaurant located in the heart of central London serving Provencal cuisine. It is housed in a magnificent former auction house and gets it's name from the 1935 Marcel Pagnol film about local restaurant rivalry. The double height dining room features a glass ceiling and at the end of the room there's an open kitchen with a huge grill. The dining area is well laid out with tables running down each side of the room and pretty lavender circular banquettes taking centre stage down the middle.
Cigalon's two head chefs are Julien Carlon, formerly of Comptoir Gascon and Christophe Gravelot source first-class produce from South of France and the UK for a menu of French provincial dishes. Daily meat and fish specials are cooked on the grill and served with a choice of sauces and accompaniments and could include rib of beef, suckling pig and whole sea bass. On the restaurant's classic Provencal menu there are hearty dishes such as pieds et paquets a lamb tripe and trotter stew or pasta with cuttlefish and salade nicoise. Desserts tempt with a traditional Corsican cheese and lemon cake served with a blackberry and lavender sorbet or figs tatin and honey panna cotta. There is an excellent selection of cheeses to finish things off together with a wine list of French wines with a focus on Provence.
Downstairs is the trendy Baranis bar which offers bar food together with Corsican beer and aperitifs.
