Review on Plumpy Duck at Bowfield Hotel and Country Club
In a quiet rural location with easy access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, Bowfield Hotel & Country Club occupies the remnants of a seventeenth-century bleaching mill. These days, it's famed for its impressive leisure facilities including a pool, spa, gym and beauty therapies. As part of the hotel's £1.5m redevelopment programme it opened a new restaurant in the summer of 2017 called the Plumpy Duck.
Prime Scottish produce forms the backbone of a classic British menu that might open with duck liver and orange scented parfait paired with a tangy pear chutney before a main course of beer battered haddock, hand cut fries, mushy peas and tartar sauce or for those who prefer meat there's 28 day aged Scottish rib-eye steak served with baked mushroom, confit cherry tomatoes and triple cooked chips. Finish with desserts such as sticky toffee pudding, butterscotch and vanilla ice cream or triple chocolate brownie paired with blackberry sorbet.
