Review on Eric's Restaurant
Located amongst a Victorian row of terraced shops, Eric's Restaurant opened in November 2010 in the village of Lindley, a suburb of Huddersfield. Chef-patron is Eric Paxman, who started his training in Huddersfield prior to honing his skills under celebrated chefs such as Marco Pierre White in L'escargot and during his travels abroad with Bill Grainger in Sydney, Australia.
The restaurant is set over two floors with a stylish bar and the main wooden beamed dining room on the first floor, with exposed brick walls, colourful abstract pictures from local artists and smart wood tables and chairs on original oak flooring.
Locally sourced produce is used to telling effect and their website shows the kitchen's allegiances, with trusted suppliers given a name-check. Enjoy seared hand-dived king scallops, caramelised curried salt, cauliflower, chilli and lemon fritter, and coriander oil or confit breast of locally reared Texel lamb, wild rocket, lemon, dill, crumbled feta cheese and harrisa mayonnaise amongst the starters. Equally tempting main courses follow with pan-fried fillet of wild sea bass, sautéed samphire grass, monk fish fritter, braised red peppers and caper dressing or for carnivores there's six hour braised beef cheek, Dauphinoise potatoes, Spring greens and Bourguignon sauce. There are delicious desserts to finish in the shape of dark chocolate brownie, chocolate fudge sauce and milk ice cream or vanilla crème brulée with ginger and Yorkshire rhubarb compote.
With friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere and accomplished cooking it is no surprise that the Good Food Guide readers have awarded Eric's their Restaurant of the Year for the North East.
