Review on Ilkley Moor Vaults
Long regarded as Ilkley’s finest real ale pub, the Ilkley Moor Vaults has been given a serious facelift, a new image and a brand new upstairs dining room for private events and special occasions.
The main action now takes place in two ground-floor bars, each with a real fire to keep out the moorland chills. Menus change each day and everything is produced on the premises, from sourdough bread to chips and ice creams. There’s a wholesome North Country flavour to many of the dishes, from Taylor’s Landlord rarebit or beef and Old Peculier pie to steamed marmalade pudding and Yorkshire rhubarb mess. Other dishes to look for are ham and parsley terrine, smoked haddock with mustard sauce, and duck breast with honey-roast parsnips.
In addition to regularly changing real ales, the pub now boasts an ever-developing list of cherry-picked wines: this is a ‘work in progress’, with the owners trying out new tipples all the time. The pub hosts occasional ‘unplugged’ live sessions and quiz nights; you can also get afternoon cream teas at weekends.
