Review on Monkman's Wine Bar and Restaurant
Monkfish in Ilkley has morphed into the Monkman's Wine Bar and Restaurant with new owners Mike and Joelle at the helm. With a change of décor it has a cosy feel with contrasting walls painted in red and white, stripped wood flooring and mismatched tables and chairs.
The kitchen now specialises in a French inspired bistro menu which is created around fresh seasonal produce including daily specials. You might begin with smooth chicken liver parfait, home made toasted brioche with Madeira jelly or home smoked duck breast, Dolcelatte cheese, Muscat poached pears and a blackberry compote. Follow on with Cajun spiced chicken breast, sweet potato puree, chive crème fraiche, spring onions and provençal dressing or a venison steak, fondant potatoes, wilted spinach, wild mushroom cream sauce and pickled red cabbage. Desserts home in on the classics such as a tarte tatin with home-made vanilla ice cream or frangipane of raspberry and blueberry served with Chantilly cream and a strawberry coulis.
Service is warm and friendly and their aim is to provide you with an informal but thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
