Review on Aqua Eight
Aqua Eight opened in 2006, tucked behind Ipswich town centre square, an award winning restaurant regarded by diners as one of the best dining venues in the area. Spread over two floors, with a vibrant bar downstairs serving a tasty cocktail menu, leading to an outdoor heated and covered garden area, the intimate, modern dining room with its stylish décor is set on the first floor.
Owned by brothers Vincent and Patrick Wing Cheung whose father Simon introduced some of the first Chinese restaurants to the UK in the 1960's, it is Patrick who trained as a chef and is responsible for Aqua Eight's signature blend of Pan-Asian fusion dishes, while Vincent admirably looks after front-of-house. The kitchen has a close association with local farmers and fishermen ensuring that ingredients are fresh and first class, while specialist Asian spices, rice, noodles and exotic fruit and vegetables are imported to maintain the authenticity of certain Pan Asian dishes.
From the a la carte menu choose a starter of tom yum kung soup consisting of prawn and shiitake mushroom, followed by the popular main course of char- grilled wasabi sirloin steak with soya and lemongrass, or for fish lovers there's Thai monkfish with mango and passion fruit in sweet chilli sauce. To finish enjoy desserts in the shape of chocolate chilli bake with vanilla cream or banana filo pastry with coconut ice cream.
The well spread wine list is worth perusing and there's as extensive variety available by the glass.
