Review on Scarista House
The views from Scarista House â€" a converted Georgian manse â€" are stunning: the ocean, the heather-covered mountains and the three-mile-long sand beach make it one of the most beautifully remote places to stay in Britain.
Current owners Tim and Patricia Martin run Scarista as a restaurant-with-rooms and have extra accommodation in two self-catering cottages nearby. They bake their own bread and cakes, make jams, marmalade, ice creams and yoghurt and are committed to using what the island can provide â€" especially if it’s home grown, free-range or organic.
Dinner is a fixed-price, no-choice affair that could run as follows: ‘mafaitti’ of seafood with Sound of Harris langoustine butter sauce, seared loin of Highland lamb with Burgundy sauce, aubergine purée and dauphinoise potatoes, then Scottish farmhouse cheeses and finally iced Drambuie and praline parfait with a tiny clootie dumpling.
