Review on Mark Jordan at The Beach
Formerly known as Bistro Soleil, it is now a new enterprise called Mark Jordan at The Beach, sister restaurant to the Michelin-starred Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel, a joint partnership between Patrick and Treena Burke, owners of the hotel and its Executive chef Mark Jordan and his wife Magda. In an idyllic setting by the beach on Jersey's south coast with views of the castle and St Aubin harbour, it is located just five minutes drive from the airport.
The L-shaped dining room offers panoramic views of the bay with an interior that keeps thing plain and simple with a minimalist design, chunky oak tables and original artwork by local artist Nick Romeril are displayed on the cream walls. On balmy evenings tables on their al fresco terrace dining area are much sought after.
Jordan has appointed long time colleague Benjamin Crick to head the kitchen and together they have created a modern British menu with the emphasis on first-class local ingredients. You could begin with poached Jersey oysters and cucumber beurre blanc before a main course of Scottish rib eye steak, sauté potatoes, spinach, onion rings and béarnaise sauce or from the sea there's pan fried fillet of cod, poached egg and chive butter sauce. To finish choose crispy thin apple tart paired with toffee ice cream or Mandarin orange and chocolate cheesecake.
An excellent wine list with plenty of choice by the glass, warm attentive service in a relaxed ambience adds to the whole package.
