Review on La Place Restaurant, Hotel La Place
Created around the remains of a seventeenth-century farmhouse, Hotel La Place occupies one of Jersey’s most peaceful backwaters, only a short stroll from St Aubin’s harbour and the secluded golden sands of St Brelade’s Bay.
When it comes to food, you can eat al fresco in the courtyard or choose the historic atmosphere of the beamed Retreat restaurant and conservatory-style Garden Room. Dinner is an ambitious affair focusing on contemporary dishes such as flash-fried Jersey scallops with chilli, mangetout and chorizo, chicken breast stuffed with apricots and thyme accompanied by truffle risotto and Madeira jus, and desserts like blueberry and almond tart or dark chocolate and orange crème brûlée. The wine list is a globetrotter.
