Review on The Cross At Kenilworth
Within easy walking distance of Abbey Fields and Kenilworth Castle, The Cross at Kenilworth dates back to the 19th century, a substantial brick pub that is reaping the benefits of a thorough contemporary makeover " to good effect. The interior has been given the obligatory treatment, with stripped wood floors, modern furnishings, artwork and a sense of space; there’s also a big landscaped garden and patio for al fresco meals.
The Cross At Kenilworth is the sister restaurant to the Michelin starred Simpsons restaurant in Edgbaston, also owned by acclaimed chef and restaurateur Andreas Antona. The restaurant under the leadership of talented Head Chef Mark Hands was delighted to pick up their own prestigious Michelin star in the 2015 edition of the Guide, and also received three AA Rosettes in 2019.
The kitchen serves up cooking of the highest quality offering starters in the shape of pork, chicken liver and pistachio terrine, pickled vegetables, pistachios and violet mustard or salmon rillette, cucumber, watercress, horseradish and caraway. Follow on with a main course of Creedy Carver duck, endives, lentils, blood orange and bergamot or fish fans might opt for the cod, king oyster mushroom, onion risotto, cavolo nero and red wine sauce. Desserts bring on board luscious delights such as dark chocolate sphere, coconut sorbet, tropical fruits and passion fruit sauce as well as a praline soufflé paired with chocolate sorbet.
The Cross At Kenilworth is also featured in: Michelin Guide, AA Guide
