Review on Packie's
Chef Martin Hallissey is now the main man at this casual upbeat venue that markets itself as ‘Packie’s Food & Wine’. Inside it’s faintly bohemian with some sunny Mediterranean touches â€" greenery and window boxes, pottery, wooden tables on slate floors, mirrors and bright local artwork on the walls.
Local and organic produce get a good airing on the evening menus, although seafood is the top player. Expect to see crab cakes with tartare sauce, turbot, scallops, seafood sausages and plaice with caper and lemon butter sauce alongside meaty stuff like classic Irish stew spiked with fresh herbs, chicken with coriander and lime or rack of lamb. Red onion and Cashel Blue tart is a signature dish, and desserts include a must-have sticky toffee pudding as well as homemade praline ice cream.
