Review on Armathwaite Hall, Lake View Restaurant
‘A house of perfect and irresistible charm,’ wrote the famous novelist Sir Hugh Walpole about Armathwaite Hall. This stately residence stands in secluded splendour at the heart of 400 acres of deer park and woodland, bordered by Bassenthwaite Lake and framed by the dramatic Skiddaw mountain and Lakeland fells.
Meals are served in the aptly named Lake View restaurant, and dinners often run to six courses of mostly classical Anglo-French dishes. Typical offerings might include timbale of trout with confit potatoes followed by medallions of pork with chive oil, while desserts have featured rice pudding with plum compote.
