Review on Leathes Head Hotel
Built of local slate, this fine Edwardian country house stands in over two acres of grounds at the heart of Borrowdale. Not surprisingly, the views are magnificent.
The kitchen works a short, fixed-price dinner menu that changes each night and runs to four courses. You might kick off with cream of broccoli soup or grilled goats’ cheese with roast peppered pear, before moving on to an intermediate course such as baked Finnan haddock Mornay. Centrepiece dishes could range from grilled Ullswater lamb cutlets with cured Cumberland sausage and port wine jus or baked fillet of Scottish salmon with cucumber and lime cream sauce, while desserts bring down the curtain with the likes of chilled orange and lemon curd cheesecake or hot date and walnut sponge pudding with maple syrup.
