Review on The Lodore Falls Hotel, Lake View Restaurant
Recently purchased by the Graves family, this imposing 200-year-old hotel built of Lakeland slate stands in 40 acres of grounds against the dramatic backdrop of the Lodore Falls and surrounding mountains.
Guests are offered canapés in the lounge bar as a prelude to dinner in the Lake View restaurant, which has great views of Derwent Water. Menus are fixed price for two or four courses and there’s a strong modern theme throughout. Char-grilled king scallops might be served on mixed leaves with fresh asparagus and raspberry vinaigrette as a starter, before a second course involving a soup or sorbet.
At the heart of the menu are dishes like roast rack of lamb on rösti with Lodore red onion marmalade, rosemary and redcurrant jus or pavé of cod on roasted Mediterranean vegetables with basil pesto and balsamic glaze, while the choice of desserts could run to apple and cinnamon sponge or coconut bavarois with tropical fruit and Tequila sorbet.
An alternative dining option is available in the elegant Mizu restaurant offering authentic Pan-Asian cuisine.
