Review on Trident Hotel, Pier One Restaurant
A superb waterside location and breathtaking views are just two of the major attributes that have earned this 1960s hotel a reputation as one of the best places to stay in Kinsale. Ongoing refurbishment and improvements ensure that the Trident’s facilities are up-to-the-mark, and much attention focuses on the fine-dining Pier One restaurant.
The dining room is ideally situated and is one of the few in Kinsale that can boast uninterrupted sea views from its windows. Fish figures prominently on the wide-ranging menu, which could take in anything from steamed mussels with white wine and ginger to fillet of sea bass with ratatouille salsa. Irish steaks and venison please meat fans and there is ample choice for vegetarians (goats’ cheese and sun-dried tomato strudel with sage butter, for example). To finish, try rhubarb fool with homemade cookies.
The traditional Wharf Tavern is an equally popular rendezvous, noted for its clever nautical design, all-day bar menu and regular live music; carvery lunches also attract the crowds.
