Review on Oswald House Hotel
Standing directly adjacent to Dunnikier Golf course, this impressive eighteenth-century mansion was originally the home of General Sir John Oswald, Many of its original Adam-style features have been preserved intact, including an ornate panelled entrance and magnificent log-burning fireplace.
The restaurant offers modern dishes built around Scottish produce. Sesame-crusted salmon steak is served with roasted cherry tomatoes, leek and white wine sauce, certified Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks come with spring onion mash and a brandy and Dijon mustard sauce, while medallions of peppered venison might share the plate with char-grilled vegetables, raspberry and whisky jus.
To start, expect mushrooms provençale in a pastry case with Parmesan crisps or honey-roast smoked salmon with carrot and red onion salad, while desserts could range from lemon and blackcurrant crème brûlée to a compote of forest fruits in a filo basket topped with Mascarpone.
