Review on Rendezvous at Nargile
Yusuf and Karen Iridag set up the Rendezvous at Nargile in 1993 and have been pleasing Aberdonians with their authentic food ever since. They are quick to point out that this is not really a Turkish restaurant, but takes inspiration from all parts of the eastern Mediterranean.
Hot and cold mezze kick off the show (anything from hummus with chopped lamb to slices of Turkish sucuk sausage or oven-roasted scallops on rocket and Parmesan salad). Main include the usual char-grills and skewers, plus less familiar dishes such as firinda ordek (roasted leg of duck on stir-fried red cabbage with plum and port sauce) or fener balik (monkfish topped with tomato, basil and mozzarella, with herb-scented couscous).
A simple menu of mezze and light bites is also available during the day (until 5.00pm), and it's also worth checking out the good-value fixed-price menu served from 5.00 - 7.00pm in the evening. A clutch of gutsy Turkish tipples show up alongside a big French contingent on the wine list.
