Review on Lucy’s on a Plate
Next door to Lucy's Specialist Grocers, where you can stock up on unusual provisions, this amenable café/restaurant has evolved from its original teashop ethos into an all-day venue specialising in local food with an eclectic flavour.
Inside, scrubbed pine tables, chapel chairs and a cosy fire create just the right mood; a modern conservatory provides additional space and there's a delightful walled garden if you fancy sitting outside. The kitchen works to a daytime menu until 6.00pm, and the choice runs from breakfast fry-ups, though sandwiches, salads and pasta dishes to all-inclusive teas. Later on, daily-changing supper menus make the most of Cumbrian produce including Windermere char, fell-bred beef, Lakeland lamb and venison.
To finish there's an ever-increasing list of 'proper puddings' – bread-and-butter, Pavlovas, fruit crumbles and more besides. Lucy's even stages 'Up The Duff Pudding Nights' on the first Wednesday of each month for those who want to indulge.
