Review on Wilks Restaurant
Wilks, formerly the well-regarded Culinaria restaurant is a small neighbourhood restaurant that is charming the lucky diners in Redland, Bristol with its accomplished creative cooking and welcoming ambience. The restaurant is owned by James Wilkins and his fiancée Christine Vayssade, James is in charge of the kitchen, while Christine takes care of front-of-house. The restaurant features a modern décor with contemporary works from local artists displayed on the walls that are available for sale.
Fresh local ingredients play an important part in their menu of modern French dishes using innovative techniques. Expect lobster bisque, poached lobster, artichoke and star anise amongst the starters, followed by a main course of 45 days dry aged west country beef sirloin, caramelised onions and perpetual spinach, black garlic and red wine jus. There are delightful desserts to finish in the shape of stuffed English raspberries, spiced orange, honey crunch and vanilla ice cream or maybe zesty lemon cream, cherry compote, yoghurt and cardamon sorbet.
Like its predecessor Culinaira, they also offer a "Food for home" range, where you can pick up a range of freshly made dishes to takeaway with you. Wilkes Restaurant was the winner of the Best French Restaurant in the Bristol Good Food Awards 2013 and also picked up a prestigious Michelin star in the 2014 edition of the Guide.
