Review on Red Lion Inn
Mobile Food Guide reporters are full of praise for this traditional Costwold inn at the very heart of prosperous Chipping Campden. Its mellow stone façade is an immediate eye-catcher, and the interior doesn't disappoint with its flagstone floors, exposed beams and old-fashioned trappings. Staff are 'superb' and the food is 'delightful'.
The kitchen uses the best produce it can find from the three counties of Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire for a menu that might include warm slices of smoked duck with fresh mango, sirloin of Red Hereford beef with homemade chips, field mushrooms and grilled tomato, and Gloucester Old Spot pork loin stuffed with apricots and redcurrants.
Sticky toffee pudding is a highly recommended dessert; otherwise try banana fritters with toffee sauce or a trio of ice creams in a brandy snap basket. The inn also has a fine stock of malt whiskies.
