Review on The Bollo
A grand local landmark in the verdant surroundings of Chiswick Park, The Bollo is a proud-looking Victorian building that now does sterling service as a smart all-day gastro-pub. White painted walls, leather banquettes, wood panelling and a striking domed glass roof set the tone, and there's a delightful wrap-around terrace for al fresco meals.
The kitchen sends out a few old-school pub standards (fish and chips, burgers, apple crumble), but the main interest is in the modern British and European dishes. To begin, try pigeon breast with truffle-scented pea purée and port jus or corned beef hash cake with poached duck egg and homemade ketchup. After that, consider Elwy Valley lamb racks with butterbean purée, braised green and lavender jus or courgette and herb risotto with vegetable crisps, then finish off with cheesecake and cranberry sorbet.
The team at Bollo are also proud of their Sunday lunches: 'No badges. No streamers. Nothing with an umbrella in it. No waiter who wants to be on children's television.' Instead, enjoy Elwy Valley lamb and roast corn-fed chicken with all the trimmings.
