Review on Malmaison
The boutique hotel group Malmaison opened their 13th hotel on the 3rd February 2014 in Dundee, part of the £1 billion city's regeneration project of its historic waterfront. The 120 year old listed sandstone building, originally the famous Tay Hotel has been closed for almost 20 years and has now been restored to its former glory featuring a huge domed ceiling and the original wrought iron staircase. The brasserie is a richly appointed room with luxurious furnishings and a superb Josper Grill taking centre stage.
Carefully sourced local produce forms the backbone of the menu, which opens with skilfully crafted starters like steak carpaccio, rocket and parmigiano reggiano, truffle dressing or hot smoked salmon, roasted beetroot and horseradish crème fraîche. Main courses embrace a selection of Donald Russell Scottish steaks, naturally reared and dry-aged on the bone for a minimum of 28 days cooked on the Josper Grill or elsewhere you might choose the pan-fried sea bass, sautéed new potatoes, and chorizo mussel vinaigrette.
The MALBAR is a stylish venue for drinks showcasing a list of expertly mixed classic and quirky cocktails.
